Since last December, when we first heard the news about your illness, our thoughts and prayers have been with you.
We know what a difficult time this has been for you and your family. We are just delighted to see you are now well enough to return to work.
You have spent your career fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves, and you have done so with courage and determination. You never sought the limelight. You just got up every morning, saw what needed to be done, and went to work.
Every step of the way, you have stood up for us. You fought to make schools better for our kids, to help families earn a living wage and to keep family farms a vital part of rural life. You've helped to make South Dakota and our nation better places to live.
Now, faced with a daunting illness, you have shown the same courage, grit and dignity that you have shown throughout your career of public service. Whatever challenges lay ahead in the coming months, we know that with the support of your family and the people of South Dakota, and all your friends and supporters, you will surmount them.
Welcome back, Senator Johnson. You have been missed, and we could not be happier about your return to the Senate!
