Kelly Ayotte Backing Misguided Supreme Court Decision In Citizens United

Showing the same lack of legal aplomb as a Senate candidate which she showed as New Hampshire’s attorney general, Republican Kelly Ayotte came out in support of the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC…a decision which will effectively enable corporations to make unlimited independent expenditures in direct support of chosen political candidates.

As DSCC Chairman Robert Menendez said last week in a statement, the decision creates a serious risk that citizens’ voices in the political process will be drowned out by corporate interests…a possibility with which Kelly Ayotte seems perfectly happy.

Democrat Paul Hodes, however, sees the danger ahead:

“The upcoming election in New Hampshire should be decided by the people of the Granite State, not special interests with unlimited cash,’’ Hodes said. “Washington is broken – and this will only make business as usual worse.’’

As Kelly Ayotte applauds the increased influence of corporate interests in American politics, Paul Hodes is well aware of the danger posed to the voters of New Hampshire.
